OCP adds an African dimension to its strategy
When OCP Group revised its global strategy in 2008, it wanted to add an African dimension – both because of convictions about the continent’s growth potential and as an outgrowth of the company’s commitment to follow a “do well by doing good” business model. But African was the one continent where OCP had little on-the-ground experience.
Drawing on its expertise regarding the history and institutional framework for agricultural development in African, Prospero helped OCP become more familiar with the specificities of agricultural development and to engage in addressing the complex political, social, cultural and economic challenges involved. The participatory process helped OCP personnel master the differences between the African markets and other contexts where the company had more experience.
As a result, OCP designed a customized commercial strategy for Africa that complemented its global strategy, while accommodating local specificities. OCP built relationships with key stakeholders, earned rapid credibility and respect for its actions in Africa and saw sales quickly reach record levels in its African markets.
